Snowy Range Evangelical Free Church can trace its history back to 1984 when a handful of Laramie families formed a Bible study with the intention of starting a new church. In early 1985, this church was incorporated as the First Evangelical Free Church of Laramie and admitted into the Rocky Mountain District of the Evangelical Free Church of America. Not long after that, a name change was proposed and adopted to reflect our proximity to the Snowy Range of the Rocky Mountains.
While everyone was welcome to worship at Snowy Range, you had to find us first. The church met in a variety of locations before purchasing its first building at 1402 Gibbon street. Previous to that, various homes, offices downtown, the County fairgrounds, and a couple different locations on the University of Wyoming campus all served as worship centers at one time or another.
The little building (not much more than a converted home, really) on Gibbon served its purpose for a time but only because multiple services soon became the norm. By 2003 it had become very apparent that a larger facility was needed and after much prayer, a decision was made to sell the building and purchase several acres of land on North 15th Street where the church is currently located.
This was a big step of faith for the membership of Snowy Range, but God blessed and the new building seemed like it would accommodate our needs for years to come. And it did. But once again multiple services have become the norm as Snowy Range stays true to its mission of “Making disciples who make a difference for Jesus Christ in Laramie, Wyoming and around the world”.
One church member said, “The history of Snowy Range is a testament to God’s faithful direction and provision, and gives me confidence for the future. There are more wonderful things that God has in store for us. Greater things are yet to come”.
