Our mission at Snowy Range Evangelical Free Church is to make disciples for Christ that make a difference in Laramie, in Wyoming, and around the world. Part of growing in Christ is a growing surrender of ALL of us–that includes our finances.
Our giving is an act of worship for the glory of God
2 Corinthians 9:12 says, “This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.” Sometimes we think of the worship part of the service as the singing, but it’s really no coincidence that we also take the offering during that part–we are just worshiping with our finances as well as our voices, and the two are in harmony.
Our giving is an overflow of a grateful heart towards God
2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Generosity should be a priority
Proverbs 3:9-10 tells us, “Honor the LORD from your wealth, and from the first of all your produce; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.” If God is the most important person in our lives, our giving should reflect that.
When we give we meet the needs of others here on earth and we store up treasures for ourselves in heaven
Jesus said in Matthew 6:19-21, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” And unlike our earthly treasure that can be stolen or disappear at any time, to the best of my knowledge nobody has ever cracked the safes of heaven!
